Northern lights and sparkling, snow-covered forests

Northern lights, sparkling snow-covered forests, Arctic char, cloudberries, reindeer, campfire coffee, and much more. Jukkasjärvi is a unique place to build a close-knit team. Icehotel was founded in 1989, when the original and world-unique idea of creating a hotel made of snow and ice became a reality. Many were skeptical at first – but today Icehotel is world-famous, and visitors come here from all over the globe. In addition, it is one of Sweden’s most unique and arguably most extensive private art exhibitions. Each year it is reborn in a new form, when around 40 artists from all over the world come to create their works. The ice is, of course, taken from the Torne River.

Take the opportunity to experience a magical night surrounded by hand-sculpted ice art in -5°C temperatures, where the insulated sleeping bags keep you warm. Or choose a night in a warm hotel room or cabin—or a combination of one cold night and one warm night. After a night at Icehotel, we can promise that a sauna bath in the early morning will feel especially refreshing. Here, you are of course also treated to fantastic Norrland-inspired culinary experiences – world-class in every sense. Carefully selected ingredients sourced from the local surroundings. An outdoor wilderness dinner can also be truly magical.

In October or November, you can swap rainy autumn days elsewhere in Sweden for a white landscape and Arctic light in the north. Experience the Northern Lights and witness the first snowfall, which can come as early as late September. The Northern Lights season runs from September to April. In the nature around Jukkasjärvi, a wide range of activities and adventures await. During the winter season, a dog sled tour is a must. The eager dogs stop howling as soon as they start running, and the only sound you hear is their paws against the snow-covered ground. A more high-paced experience is a guided snowmobile tour—an adventure that can be combined with a coffee break or dinner, and of course, the hunt for the Northern Lights. Challenge your colleagues in ice sculpting—who will create the best ice art?

Northern Lights photography – capture the phenomenon on camera! Escape artificial light and capture a star-filled sky—and hopefully the Northern Lights. During the summer season, white-water rafting is an exhilarating experience, and there is also an obstacle course available. The entire nature and surroundings offer a wide range of activities in all seasons.

Icehotel offers everything needed for a traditional indoor meeting or conference, with capacity for up to 100 people. There is also a huge opportunity for unconventional conferences—for example, meetings in a sauna, a lavvu tent, or somewhere in untouched nature.
